Field Trip to NYC Museums
Brooklyn Museum of Art & the Metropolitan Museum of Art
March 2004

“It was nice to actually see the artifacts and art styles we’ve been talking about all semester.  It’s one thing to see photographs in a book or on the web; it’s quite another to see them in person.  Seeing the temple and false doors was especially helpful in enabling me to visualize and understand many important concepts.”
Kim Sanders
“I thought the most interesting [thing]s were those that would be used in daily life like the combs and mirrors.  Also, the sheer size of some of the objects like the huge temple and the tiny amulets was quite impressive.”
Karen Menter
“It was great to actually see all the stuff we talked about in class—it gave me a much better idea of the culture than pictures have ever given me.”
Kelly Sisti
“It was great to actually see some of the artifacts that we have talked about in class.  It was also great to see the temple at the MET.  It really helped me grasp Egyptian society & religion more fully.  Thanks.
Jude Gullie

“I’m so glad I had the opportunity to see the exhibits.  It was something that I may have never been able to do without the trip.  Seeing the actual artifacts helped me to understand what we were learning in class.  It was nice to see the actual items instead of just pictures in a book or on a website.”
Natalie Pearsall
“I have been to some of the best museums in the world. However, I have never had the chance to walk through a museum w/someone of expertise in the subject.  Being able to discuss the artifacts w/my proffessor was a fantastic learning experience.”
Jeff Spiegelman
“Thank you for giving us the opportunity to view two of the best museums in the U.S.  Seeing the exhibits in person not only clarifies what is learned in class, but makes me want to learn more.”
Jason Simoni
“Having never even taken a history course at Ithaca, I was somewhat apprehensive when I was invited to fill an empty seat on the New York trip.  After all, I had no idea what to expect.  However, I found the entire experience very entertaining and interesting.  For me at least, the best was being able to learn about dieties such as Isis and Osiris through actual sculptures and other pieces of art.  The interplay between religious mythology and real life was wonderful to see and I feel very lucky having been a part of the trip.”
