Required Texts and Media
Students should bring the assigned readings to class each day. This
is essential for participating in the class discussions.
Textbooks & Other Readings
The following required textbooks are available at the IC bookstore:
Nicolas Grimal, A History of Ancient Egypt
Miriam Lichtheim, Ancient Egyptian Literature,
Vols. 1, 2, & 3
A bound course pack of required readings should be purchased immediately.
See Diana Lotito, the History Department Administrative Assistant,
in 424 Muller. Assignments in the course pack are noted on the syllabus
with a CP.
Several required readings are also available on e-reserves through the
IC library and can be accessed for free on IC networked computers. They
are noted on the syllabus with an E.
Multimedia
Many websites are assigned reading over the course of the semester. The
links are provided on the online syllabus. Click on "Schedule of
Assignments" on the menu on the left.
Required media assignments, such as videos or DVDs, are also on reserve
in the library. They are marked with an # on the syllabus. I
will schedule a class screening of all required films; if you cannot attend
the screening, you must check out the film and watch it on your own
before the day that the class is scheduled to discuss it.
